How blocking works in the code
Block armor = the shield's block value for its level × (1 + Blocking skill ÷ 100 × 0.5). A parry — raising the shield less than 0.25 s before the hit — multiplies it by the shield's parry bonus.
The shield's own resistances apply first. Then block armor works like armor on the blockable damage (everything except chop, pickaxe and true damage): if block armor is less than half the damage, it subtracts; otherwise what gets through is damage² ÷ (4 × block armor).
Stamina: a normal block costs 10 × (damage blocked ÷ block armor), capped at 10; a parry costs 0. You are staggered when the blunt, slash, pierce and lightning that gets through reaches 40% of your max health (it adds up over a few seconds in the game; this shows one hit).
