Forge of Potential

A crafting station that takes gear past its normal maximum level — for an idol, and at a risk. Everything below is read from the game's code (InventoryGui.DoCrafting) and the idols' own data.

The odds

65%

the item gains a level.

35%

the item breaks and is gone. You get back 35% of the materials it took to make and upgrade it, rounded up.

it drops one level. With the current idols this never happens: a failure always breaks.

Each attempt uses one idol and nothing else: at this forge a recipe asks only for its idol, never for its bars or hides, and any recipe works whatever station it normally needs. The level has no cap here — the forge does not stop at the item's normal maximum.

In numbers: the game rolls r from 0 to 1. If r ≤ the idol's upgrade chance (0.65) the item goes up; else if its break chance (1) ≥ 1 − r it breaks; else it goes down a level.
