Use valheimdb.com in your guides

Copy any item, creature, building piece or location the way your place needs it — Reddit, Discord, a Steam guide, a forum, a YouTube description — as text or as a picture of its card. On your own site, one script turns our links into the game's tooltips. Free to use; keep the visible link to us. Cards update themselves after each patch (now Valheim 1.0.20).

Copy for a guide

Every item, creature, piece and location page has Copy for guides ▾ in its header, and every table row that links to one has Copy ▾. Recipes have Copy recipe, the four calculators and the seed map Share (their address keeps what you picked). The menu gives:

  • Link, Reddit (Markdown), Discord (no tables there: a list, with a small grey line for the patch), Steam / forum (BBCode), Text for YouTube and chat, HTML for a blog;
  • Picture: the card as a PNG, copied straight into Discord or Reddit, or downloaded for a Steam guide or a wiki — card size or a 1200×630 post;
  • Game: the item ID or spawn command, as on the page.
Try it on the Iron Sword:

Copying many? + List collects them (it stays in your browser, up to 100). The list waits bottom right: reorder it, then Export it as a Reddit or Steam table, a Discord list, text, a grid picture, a link to a page with the list on it (/list?i=…), or one spawn command per line.

Every format for one thing

On your blog or site: one script

Add this once, anywhere in the page (the end of the body is best):

    <script src="https://valheimdb.com/tooltips.js" async></script>

Then every link to an item, creature, building piece or location on valheimdb.com shows its card on hover, and on a phone at the first tap. Links get the colour of their kind and the game's icon; a bare address is replaced by the thing's name. Each card names the patch it is for and links to its page.

    On your pageWhat it does
<a href="https://valheimdb.com/items/iron-sword">Any link to an item, creature, building piece or location: a card on hover or tap.
data-valheimdb="creatures/troll"On any element: the card of that thing (also over a link's own address).
data-no-tip or data-valheimdb="none"No card for this link.
<a … data-valheimdb-card>The link becomes the whole card in the page; your link stays inside it as its name.
data-valheimdb-list="items/wood,items/stone"A table of the cards (icon, name, kind, key stats), each row linking to its page. On a link, the link stays as its caption; on a div, plain links inside it are a fallback that the table replaces.
data-valheimdb-embed="food:QueensJam,CookedMeat,CarrotSoup"An embedded food combo with what it brings you to (ids as in the food calculator's address); a div's fallback links are replaced by it.
data-valheimdb-autolinkOn a container: names of our things in its text become links, the first time each.

Options: set window.valheimdbTooltips = { theme: "light" } before the script, or the same on the script tag (data-theme="light", data-icon-links="false").

    OptionDefaultWhat it does
colorLinkstrueColour our links by kind: items amber, creatures red, building bronze, locations frost.
iconLinkstrueA small game icon before each link (iconSize: "small" or "medium").
renameLinkstrueA link whose text is the bare address gets the thing's name.
theme"auto""auto" follows your page's background (else the reader's light/dark setting), or "dark" / "light".
touchtruePhones: the first tap shows the card, a second tap on the link opens it, a tap elsewhere closes it.
autolinkfalsetrue: names in article, .entry-content and .post become links (a CSS selector of your own works too).
pingtrueTells us once per page view how many cards a site shows (host name and counts only; no cookies, nothing about readers — see Privacy). false: no request at all.

    Live

A link: Troll. An inline card:

    Queen's Jam

    A table:

    Swamp weapons

    An embedded food combo:

Autolink: before The Elder, bring a Bronze Mace and Fire Arrow; a Troll drops Troll Hide.

Forums: a BBCode of your own

With a custom BBCode, members write [valheim]Iron Sword[/valheim] and get a link to its page (and its card, with our script in your forum's template). The link goes through https://valheimdb.com/go/, which finds the page by name (or by items.iron-sword) and otherwise opens our search.

    phpBB 3.2 / 3.3

ACP → Posting → BBCodes → Add a new BBCode.

    BBCode usage: [valheim]{INTTEXT}[/valheim]

    HTML replacement: <a href="https://valheimdb.com/go/{INTTEXT}">{INTTEXT}</a>

{INTTEXT} takes letters (accents too: Mörkhalla), numbers, spaces, commas, dots, plus, minus, hyphens and underscores — no apostrophes, so “Queen's Jam” is written Queens Jam (it still finds the page). Don't use {TEXT} in a link: phpBB warns against it in HTML. For cards, add our script line to your style's overall_footer.html.

    XenForo 2

Admin control panel → custom BB codes → Add BB code.

BB code tag: valheim; Replacement mode: simple replacement; Supports option parameter: No.

    HTML replacement: <a href="https://valheimdb.com/go/{text}">{text}</a>

Under “Within this BB code”, turn off parsing other BB codes and auto-linking. For cards, add our script line to the PAGE_CONTAINER template before </body>.

Steam guides and discussions can't run scripts or custom codes: use the Copy menu's Steam format, and its Picture for images (upload it to the guide). The Reddit and Discord formats are made for those two.

    Notion, Ghost, Discourse, Medium, WordPress

Paste the link to the page on a line of its own. Services that read oEmbed get an embedded card (https://valheimdb.com/oembed); the others show the link preview (the card's name, its key stats and icon).

WordPress plugin: gamedb-cards.zip (shortcodes for our sister sites too), then for example [gamedb site="valheimdb" id="items/iron-sword" mode="card"] or [gamedb site="valheimdb" id="items/wood,items/stone" mode="list"]. Without the plugin, the HTML formats above work in a Custom HTML block.
